Gary Merrill

GARY MERRILL is a principal a co-founder of Emergent Systems, a consortium of organization and management development consultants dedicated to creating more viable, vital and sustainable organizations and communities. Gary's professional mission is twofold: 1) to foster individual and organizational success within the context of the "triple bottom line" of economic prosperity, social equity and environmental sustainability and 2) to support people's search for deeper meaning in life and work.

Gary is an accomplished organization development consultant, educator, and coach with more than 20 years experience. Recent clients include Cisco, Veritas, Hewlett Packard, Berlex Biosciences, MS2, Mount Madonna School, Grove Consultants International, The International Monetary Fund and Granite Construction Company.

Gary is an Associate Partner of The Far Sight Group, an international network of consultants that apply the original theories of living systems, transformational change and human creativity, developed by George Land. Gary is a Master Facilitator and Trainer in the Far Sight Group's Creative Strategic Thinking programs. In addition, Gary is a contract consultant with Synergy Learning Systems, a leading provider of team development and experiential learning programs and the Catalyst Consulting Team, a leading organization and management development firm.

He has expertise in the design, construction and implementation of online work environments that enable people and organizations to collaborate via the Web. As the West Coast Studio Chief for Caucus Systems, Inc., Gary helped establish Caucus as a leading platform for asynchronous conferences and distributed work team meetings.

Gary served as an executive for ten years with Drake Beam Morin, Inc. (DBM), the world's leading provider of career management services. As Senior Vice President of DBM Training & Consulting, Inc., he was responsible for the research, development and delivery of breakthrough career consulting services and training programs. He received two excellence awards from Drake Beam Morin for his contributions to the field of career and organization development.

Gary holds a MS in Clinical and Community Psychology from San Jose State University and a BA in Psychology and Human Ecology from the University of California, Santa Cruz. Gary is affiliated with the National and Bay Area Organization Development Network, the American Society for Training and Development, Institute for Noetic Sciences and the World Future Society. He is a member of the Board of Directors for the Santa Cruz Environmental Council and the Path Setters Institute.

Gary lives in Santa Cruz, California with his wife of twenty years and two extraordinary teenagers. He enjoys photography, hiking, sailing and tending his garden.
